The Niger River

The Niger river is 4200 km (2600 miles) long, from its source along the crescent of the Niger in the Sahel to the delta in the Gulf of Benin. Before the creation of Kanji reservoir at Bussa, the Kebbawa nomadic fishermen’s migrations covered approximately 2.500 km.

This map shows the impressive number of checkpoints where the River nomads are requested to pay bribes to state officers in order to pass.
